I bought a leather coral last week on Wednesday from an LFS. At the time the coral was waxed over and the owner told me to just wait a couple days and that the coral would peel over and look back to normal. However, it’s been over a week and I’m starting to get concerned that he’s beginning to die. I’ve got him closer to the outlet of the filter and the flow seems to be high enough to prevent any kind of algae build up. Is it starting to die or should I just keep waiting.
My tank parameters
Ammonia:0
Nitrite:0
Nitrate: 5 ppm
Salinity :1.025
Haven’t tested calcium or alkalinity

do the polyps ever extend?
I have a devils hand leather that almost never extends its polyps and it leans over a lot.
It's still alive but from what I've learned leathers can be super temperamental and will hide a lot for no good reason.

They can be very temperamental. I have a large toadstool that was down for over a month the last time it shed. It got so bad I almost pulled it but didn't. As long as its not all mushy or turning black I would leave. Try to avoided moving or touching it that will only upset it more. You can try blowing it off with a turkey blaster but you said it's in higher flow so that may not be needed. The nice thing if it is a shed which it sounds like mine gets larger after each shed.

Keeping my fingers crossed… I can try blowing some of it with a turkey baster… the coral is directly under a hob filter so I’m not sure if it’s enough flow… should I get a power head to direct it from across the tank?

a power head is a must if you want to keep your corals happy. it also will help with the shedding process with leathers.
