im interested in having Jeff make me two lifereef refugium s for my upcoming build. I want to be Able to house two different types of macro algea. I’m planning on plumbing them off my main display drain and throttle the flow back with a valve and then gravity drain them into my sump that will sit below them. Anyone know what size bulkhead these things can accommodate for the water going in as well as water flowing out? I want to hard plumb them Into my design. How do you like them? What do or don’t you like about it? Would you buy a refugium from lifereef again?

Thanks!

Have you reached out to Jeff via a phone call or email? He is quick to answer if he is not in the shop working and usually answers emails within 24 hours. Super friendly lad who is beyond helpful. If you don't need it he won't sell it. Plain and simple.

I do not own a refugium but I own a skimmer of his since 2000 and he will still answer a question if I send him a message. Heck I was asking what changed from when I bought mine to the present day and he said nothing outside a few fitting changes or the collection cup. No need to buy current offering because mine works just as good if not better. So I bought a sump instead... Just tell him what you are looking for and he will include what is necessary or tell you what size if you need to buy it.

I have one of his custom built refugiums for my setup but I haven't got it wet yet. The build quality is really good in my opinion, and it was well packaged when shipped. I probably won't have it operational until mid summer, though. Bought one of his skimmers too! Pretty anxious to try it out! This will be my first skimmer, ever - so hopefully it doesn't disappoint.

If you want pictures of the refugium let me know. I worked with him to design it and customize the plumbing position, and he built it exactly to match my diagram. I had to re-send it a couple of times but oh well!

You'll have to talk to Jeff. Will depend on the size of the fuge. I've had a couple and they've been built differently. My large one had an internal overflow with the main bulkhead at the bottom and an emergency one up top. My smaller one didn't have the internal overflow but did have the main bulkhead and the emergency.
Let him know what you need and he'll build it.

Morangus - here's some pictures of the Refugium + Skimmer he built.

I paid extra to get certain parts of the skimmer in blue. One of the pictures shows how the refugium was plumbed into my old Reefer 250 sump. I never got that tank wet, and now have a 525. I'll be plumbing this into that tank soon and will feed it from my return line (tee'd off) and have it drain into the return chamber. I've had this thing since last July and never used it yet - getting anxious!

You'll see in the pictures that there's a spray bar for the input, and then two drains. One drain has the grates on it and one emergency drain that's a little higher in case the primary drain is blocked.

Hope this helps, cheers!
