I know when you mix multiple phytoplankton strands together eventually one strand out competes the other until there is only 1 strand left but I was curious if anyone knew how long that would typically take in storage? I only ask as I have been putting my 4 different phyto strands into 64 oz mason jars to use for my pod and rotifer cultures and I had thought about putting 1/4 of each strand into one jar so I could just pour from one jar vs four like I do now. I typically use the bottles within a week and I put them in a fridge and stir them daily.

As long as there was no light, the four differrent cultures should easily last a month without cross contamination of cultures.

What differrent cultures are you cultivating?

Because you refrigerate them. Most Phyto should go in a type of hibernation. You should be all good, especially since you use it within a week.

That was the line of thinking I was going with as well.

@Subsea I am doing Nanno, Tetra, T-Iso and Rhody Salina currently with two 1 gallon cultures of each for 8 total gallons.

Just place and order tonight for Chaetoceros calcitrans, Thalassiosira weissfloggii and Pheaodactylum tricornutum from @ReefLegends during their 30% off black Friday event! Plan to maybe just keep either Tetra or Nanno at gallon jars and drop everything else down to 1/2 gallon jars to save space since 8 gallons total seems to be perfect amount to feed tank, pods and rotifers.

Great time to place an order!

I would grow more Thal than nanno. I would do Gallon Tetra, Gallon Thal and then rest in half gallon sizes.
