I posted several months ago about the new sump I designed and was having built by Advanced Acrylics. It finally arrived today! I'm so excited to get this monster installed this afternoon. I've hired a few high school kids to get it down into the basement and help me install it. I'll post more pics later, but here it is out of the box! BTW, if you're wondering why the compartment following the skimmer section is split in two, the back half is for some equipment (carbon, etc.) and the front section is for a refugium. However, I'm going to use the refugium section as an anemone display tank instead. Wish me luck getting this puppy installed!

Well, it took four high school football players to get this monster into the basement fish room and then swap it for the old monster. Then it took me over a day and a half to get it all set up. After that labor of love, it's done! I designed it with help from John at Advanced Acrylics who also built it. While waiting for the sump, I upgraded all the plumbing to match the orange/gray color scheme I wanted. Geo's Reef was kind enough to make me two reactors in orange (One hidden from view in the reactor chamber behind the refugium/anemone display tank, so I put the other one out front in the second picture so you can see it. The first one has carbon and I'll eventually put biopellets in the other plus I'll use the back bulkhead to put in a dual manifold for the reactors. Also, I'm going to put a riser in the reactor chamber so it's easier to service the reactors.). Please excuse the messy wires---I haven't had the time to hide them in the stand ceiling yet. Also, if anyone knows where I can get a quality custom skimmer made in the gray/orange theme, please let me know! Thanks!

That sump looks amazing I do have one cheeky question and that is the cost for the sump alone? the reason I’m asking is I’m gunna be looking into a sump in the next few months but not quite that big but I’m in the uk

No worries. Full price without shipping was $2500 which is unfortunately a laughable sum given the ridiculous amounts of money I've spent on this hobby over a dozen years. If you're in the UK, I'd definitely look for someone relatively local to make one for you because shipping from the States would probably cost you close to what the sump costs. Good luck!

I finally finished setting up the reactor chamber in the new sump! The delay was caused by weird out-of-stock plumbing fittings at BRS. Anyway, here are a couple pictures. In the back, you can see the manifold I built myself (thank you very much!). A Sicce Synchra 2.0 feeds it. The reactor on the left currently has carbon. The one on the right has a couple handfuls of biopellets tumbling. (Again, thanks to Geo's Reef for making the reactors to match my color scheme!). The effluent from the biopellets reactor goes through a hose to be deposited back in the skimmer chamber near the skimmer intake. I think I'm finally done with my upgraded sump setup! Time to find another expensive project to annoy my wife.
PS don't pay attention to the crimped effluent hose on the biopellet reactor. I fixed that.
