Hello everyone, I am getting back into reefing and have bought a Waterbox Infinia 150.4, should be delivered next month, so I am in the planning phase.
I have been out of the hobby for about 9 years and I had a 30G Biocube, so I have stepped up in size and wanted to see if anyone had better ideas on equipment before I started ordering.
Below is what I am thinking I will use:

105 Gallon Aquarium
37 gallon sump
return pump--Vectra M2 (2000 GPH)
Heater--Recommendations on heater I am thinking a 300 watt
Skimmer---Waterbox 270
Lights---really need advise here, should I do 2- radions or 1 bar light?
wave pump--Nero 3 powerhead

any help would be appreciated, also is it worth the extra money to have all under one control (like a mobius eco tech system?

Thanks

Search here for heater failsafes, I wouldn't run without two heaters, and two ways to measure the temp to control them if one fails.

I also recently have migrated to ATS for filtration (Algae turf scrubber). Essentially a refugium in a box.

I'd also recommend starting with live rock.

So for me, I'm building out a system to be all managed by Hydros. So think about where you plan to be on this build. It comes with a cost if you want everything to be compatible and controlled with a single app. Is it worth it? Most definitely if you value your time.

The nero 3 I feel will be lacking for this build.

As for lights, too many options.

I'ma sucker for kessils now. I used to be about budget lights. But now its what I enjoy looking at lol.

2x radion xr15 G5s will work well. Or give yourself more wiggle room and go xr30s.

You can also do the X15's then add some bars for supplement lighting. I like this idea more as this method lets you angle the side bars to fix shading issues.

If you go for radions you will need 2 xr30s.

I went for 3 xr15s and I was not getting enough par for a mixed reef.

The lights are great but they are super expensive.

Lately I’ve been looking into orphek atlantics and reef breeder lights. Much better bang for your buck.

It also depends on what you are aiming for. Lighting will be dependent on whether you want sps or softies or a bit of everything so take what I’m saying with a bit of caution.

If you want any sps to thrive then I’d go for xr30s plus a light bar.

As for flow as others have commented nero3s are not going to cut it here. I’m not even sure if you could use them due to glass thickness? Max 1/2” glass on Nero 3s if I’m not mistaken. That’s why I didn’t put them on my tank (same size and dimensions as yours). I’d go with gyres or if money is not an object of concern I’d go with mp40s. I personally went with mp40s x2 on the back glass blowing forward and it’s been perfect for me and my rock work.

In any case plan your lighting around what you wish to keep. Plan what your end goal will look like and choose lighting/wavemakers accordingly.

You could end up overspending by a great deal or underspending and having additional purchases down the line like I did.

Happy reefing, happy new years, and welcome back to the hobby
