Hi i just try to made my own zoanthids garden. Its a Pico tank 40 x 30 x 30 cm with HOB filter and diy lighting. I collect the zoa's from the nearby beach. Some of the are washed out to the shore and i glued it to rocks.

I've done 1 month cycling with only rock and sand. Then zoas get in at the 2nd month. Now, this tank is in its 4th month.

It seems the zoas are doing normal, but i didnt see any new growth. Any idea why?

I dont do water test, because its too expensive here. Water change is easier.

N.p 2 fish are lawnmower blenny and pajama cardinal and an clam with zoa on it.

Corals need light, flow, and nutrients to thrive and grow. If your coral is surviving but not thriving, then it is lacking in one of the 3 (usually it is insufficient light).

Personally I don't think a clam should be in that tank, clams need intense lighting and stable water parameters which you don't have tests to measure and control.

Thank you for the answer, so how long (how many days) is needed to be able saying the zoa's is not thriving. If they should be having more polyps under one month, that means i should put them back to the ocean.

1. For lighting i saw the does not extending their neck. (I saw they were extending when there is a leak light from my window).

2. For nutrients, i dont really sure they got all they need or not. But i saw them excreting black string from their mouth, 2-3 times a week each colony (im asuming it was their poo)

3. For flow, do the zoa need flow that can make them wiggling or just able to make their secretion move away?

And for the clams, its seems like "atrina pectinata" does it need intense care? Because i saw them living near the gutter from dirty water from the housing area.

What are you using to test parameters in your tank? That would determine if they are getting enough nutrients or not
I Didnt do any water test, its beyond my capability to use test kit. I live in islands and reef tank keeping is something unusual, so there is not to much option even for normal equipment.
