Yesterday my sailfin was doing alive and doing well today he is dead. He has been in the tank for months. All parameters are in check. I have four clowns and another yellow tang. Never witnessed the two tangs ever fighting. Is it possible that a clown could've killed him?

Sorry about you tang. I've had a similar issue happen to a purple tang. Great eater. Active I went to bed at 12pm. Got up for work the next morning and he was dead. Mystery still unsolved.

I'm hoping ford will have better insight. I just don't see a killing type wound. All other fish are acting normal?

Sailfins are generally more aggressive than clowns. Unless they've developed a wolf pack mentality I doubt they took him out.
Other than that it's hard to say. Sorry for the loss. Great fish!

The three things that stand out to me are the ripped dorsal fin, faded coloration near the stomach area and what looks to be mucous near the gills. About how long after he died did you take these pics? And do you know how much time lapsed from when he died to when you got him out of the tank?
