Working on some adjustments to my sump before I put water in the tank and wanting to add a filter roller. Here is my finalized plan - any comments / thoughts / issues you see?

I'm going to re-route the main drain line to bypass the filter sock area and go straight into the filter roller. The backup drain will still feed into the filter sock baskets and I can just manually clean these when needed (although I assume it won't be much). The water will then flow through a baffle to the 2nd compartment which will house the skimmer along with room for a turf algae scrubber when the time is right (either the IceCap pro which sits inside the sump, or the ebay algae scrubber which seems to get some good reviews and just hangs on the sump. From here the water fill flow through a baffle and into the final compartment which houses the return pump (and ato sensor) and pumps back into the tank. (Note - the mockup below IS drawn to scale with actual measurements of the sump and equipment also, the heaters will be in the 2nd compartment with the skimmer since that has the most room on the glass to be mounted).

Am I missing anything? Anything to be aware of?

Thanks in advance - so much I've learned already and looking forward to learning more.

Depending on how much water goes through the emergency drain, I would still take out the filter socks. Bacteria and algae film will still grow on the sock and its just one more thing to deal with.

The baffle between the roller and skimmer compartment seems unnecessary. You want a bit of level difference between the water level inside the roller filter and the compartment water level for water to be forced through the mat.

Thank you.

So just to understand - don’t worry about running the overflow through filter socks - just have it go unfiltered to the sump.

Also, the baffle doesn’t do much so just remove it and have everything in the same compartment?

Yes, you wont have much flow through the backup/emergency drain anyways so the sock is pretty much just sitting there not doing much, Not to mention it will be clogged with bio film and detritus overtime and its just one more thing to clean. I would let it go unfiltered

Unless you have some other reasoning for the baffle, I dont see the reason for it. I cant really tell the height of the water level you are planning for your sump so, just from your current layout and what I understand, just take it out. It might be useful, giving you more space to move the filter or work around it.

Thanks a ton - super helpful for the sanity check and help. I can always put the baffle in if needed but for now will start without it.
