Urchin picking up things in my tank

Hey I'm new to reefing and definitely new to having an Urchin. Mine love picking up everything with his spines. Have any of you guys encountered this?he somehow even picks up corals I glued down

Yep that’s what they do! If you google “tuxedo urchin reef2reef” you’ll find lots of threads where people share pictures of the things their urchins carry around. Mine was the biggest ball of algae in the tank until last night when my other urchin ate the first one’s “hair” :)

Yep, this is a pretty common occurrence with urchins. Their spines are quite strong and they have the ability to remove even corals that are glued down. Mine actually pulled some zoas off the rock work once.

Yeah, from what I was reading they are sensitive to the light. So they carry stuff to create shade. Mine has a Trap door from a snail it carries around everywhere, and any poor small snail....

that's part of the keeping an urchin life...things stick to them and get moved around. They look like roving piles of rubble and debris...imo
