They are only spotted large scale on glass near sandbed that was not scraped and yeah I saw pods among them and they are about the same size except being much more skinny,It will be a long shot without a microscope, but they look like pseudokeronopsids - giant worm-like ciliate protozoans, about the length of a copepod. Creepy but harmless. I'll post a video tomorrow if I can. I'll have to crop it because its too big for the R2R server.
