I see a lot of great DIY ideas/projects people do here. From DIY additives to DIY tanks, there's no shortage of DIY here. However, I want to know about your unsuccessful DIY ideas. Share with us those DIY ideas/projects that did not go as planned. Photo Credit: @ilyad

Just about everything in this hobby is dyi. You can diy lights, stands, additives, and even aquariums. I'm with @Slocke a lot of my diy has been well this has to do. My canopy i built actually turned out well. But I spent a lot of time planning.

I 3D print a bunch of stuff for the tank and equipment. Usually takes two or three prints to get it right.

I have made and been successful with a lot of diy things, I have also had failures. You cant always get a diy project to work correctly on the first try.
My biggest one was copying a certain monarch of home made stuff and their diy canister filter. I have done a ton of sumps and tank plumbing and canister filters but the way this was made to look like it worked defied physics. I had to try it! You know what physics in my world work as intended so this dudes design only works in his special world where physics dont apply. The only way to get it to work was to use an electronic valve to control flow in a power out situation if not you were going to have a flood. Same goes for the diy overflow it worked sort of but not really any better than a eshopps hob.
