Mine are placed in the upper back middle. aiming toward the front and ends. Basically opposite of the returns from the filters to create swirling currents

I have mine either side of the tank blowing towards each so the flow meets in the middle a disperses all around the tank

You can see in the pic, my return inlets from the 2 canister filters are located on the ends aiming toward the middle.

I placed the flow pumps in the middle aiming toward the ends. There is also a powerhead in the bottom middle aiming up and front. You can't see that one because it is behind the rocks.

I have made several changes to this tank in the last 8 weeks or so and I can really see the difference! The corals are responding to the higher flow rates with an explosion of growth.

I have 2 mp10's, 2 jebao pp8's, one nero 3, a gyre xf250, and 2 RFG nozzles on my return lines which are split into 2 lines with locline.

2 mp10's are on the side glass about 3/4 up the tank facing each other, the 2 jebao's are on the either side of my center tower style overflow, on the back glass one facing up, and the other facing down. The nero 3 is on the left side back glass real low to provide flow over my sandbed, and the gyre is on my overflow for continuous surface agitation.

I come from the camp of more powerheads set at lower speeds to prolong their life. In my mind, several PH running at slower speeds is better then 2 at higher speeds. I get nice random chaotic flow throughout my entire tank.

FWIW this is all in an 80G cube.

Dominate, hmm somewhat. But I do have quite a few LPS, and no softies or zoas.

Remember what I said though, I run my pumps rather low.

My MP10's run at max 40%, unless nutrient mode then I run them at 75%
Jebaos max out at 45%
Gyre alternating reversing at 30%
nero 3 maxes out at 30%

Because of how I have my scape, I chose to put my wavemakers on the same side of the glass.

Where they do what you want them to do. Sometimes you just need to experiment.i don't think there's any one place that fits every need. It depends on what you're trying to accomplish. SPS tanks would require different placement than Lps tanks. Find what works for you're particular situation. Also random flow instead of laminar flow. I run 4 mp 40's at different flow rates on a 150 tall. I try to mimic the ocean flow of tide.
