I’ve heard of dogs that lose their way or get lost many miles from their homes, only to find their way back months later. Just remarkable!
So last Father’s Day, (June 2021) my wife bought me two Red Fin Fairy Wrasses from one of our lfs. They were both doing well for the first couple of months. One seemed to be getting a bit territorial and banished the other to one set of rocks. Before too long, I no longer saw the one fish.
Half a year later, who shows up? Never had that happen with fish.
1. You Wrasse experts, is that common for a wrasse to literally disappear for half a year?

I have a Red Coris and a Timber Wrasse that will disappear for weeks on end and then just show up. Not sure what they do during that time but it always makes me happy when I see them again.

Right? I’ve felt like I just got a new fish.

My leopard wrasse disappeared for 6 months during my Dino outbreak. Came out for a few days real skinny. Unfortunately he didn't make it, died a few days later. I was told they are sensitive to dinos.
But happy for you!

Yep... Purchased a young Royal Gramma... disappeared on first day... assumed I lost him to a powerhead (gruesome death). 8 months later a was vacuuming my sump when I noticed the little fella under all the media blocks... almost sucked him up. Back in the tank now and more than doubled in size.... Bonus !!!

I started with 3 female blue star leopard wrasses. 2 ended up switching to male and the more dominant I thought killed the weaker of the two about 8 months ago.

Low and behold, I see the other male BLUE STAR comes out from 7:30am -9:00 am every morning. He appears pale and skinny and I can’t help but feed him as he is crushing pellets and white worms. I think I may try to catch him so I can fatten him back up and trade him in to someone who wants an awesome fish!

8 months and this dude is alive. I have to imagine he was surviving off pods since my system is loaded with them but who knows, lol.

I was visiting a friend many years ago, back in the days of sub sand filters. For you youngsters out there, we used to put a plastic "tray" with slots in it under our sand bed. We used air stones, later power heads, to pull water up a tube, which drew water down through the sand. Our sand bed was the filter! Back to the story.
My friend lamented that her favorite wrasse had disappeared some time before. As we were watching her tank together, her wrasse took that moment to poke his head up above the sand, inside the lift tube. Apparently he didn't like the bright lights and swam back down under the sub sand filter. Fortunately her tank had a glass bottom and was on a stand that was only a frame. We push sand away from the lift tube base, removed the tube, turned out the tank lights, and put her desk light under the aquarium. Little rascal swam up into the tank to get way from the light. Rescue accomplished!

Lol, had to laugh at “youngsters” comment, yes we had undergravel filters, then drip trays. After 40 yrs, we never test, except salinity at water changes and have a heathy bunch of tangs w/others. I love reef2reef for reference.

That resembles a “Reefing Soup for the Soul” story. Lol thanks.

Crazy! My red wrasse was a bit skinny as well. The interesting thing is, the one dominant wrasse who originally caused his disappearance hasn’t shown the same aggression all these months later??? I hope it continues.
