Hi R2R,

2 of my fairy wrasses took a turn for the worst very fast. I had the exquisite for almost a month and the Labout's for about two weeks. I was able to net both of them today and have them a acclimation box.

The equisite seems like a spine injury? Saw him having a hard time swimming normally and is tail down head up.

The Labout initally I thought also had some kind of injury due to running into the glass/rock work but now that I have him under white light looks like that's not the issue:

Video is short(both) and fish moving around a lot and cant tell if I see sand or ich on the body. Fish is very distressed and seems to have bite marks on it and cant see clearly through acclimation box but brighter lighting may be of help

Take a look at this thread about UNWD. If your wrasse tries to feed, then that is pretty much confirmed.

Yes they both feed. At least the exquisite did today and Labout definitely yesterday. I saw your article earlier and hoping this wasn’t the case.

Are those lesions on the Labout or just damage from nassarius snails? I saw a few starting to follow it around the tank.

Sorry, I can't tell the cause of those lesions.....

I can take a video later under full white light and try feeding them. I believe that’s sand not ich both were on the sand bed before I started getting them to move with the net

Fish is labor breathing and I am questioning water quality as i see a lot of substance known as Lyngbya and associated often with high nitrate and phosphate. The lesions may be bite marks or damage from rocks and/or aggression, What other tank mates are in with these wrasses?

If anything the tank runs too clean. I had a big silica issue due to a failed membrane when I made the initial saltwater for the tank that fueled a big diatom period but after I did some WC and time silica is under control.

As far as tank mates there are no aggression between any of them that I have witnessed other then some flashing:

Clowns
PJ Cardinals
Pintail wrasse
Blue throat wrasse
Blue star leopard wrasse
Yellow flanked wrasse
Carpenters wrasse
Scissor tail dartfish
Lawn mower blenny
Purple firefish

No crabs snail only CUC plus an urchin and some reef safe shrimp.

Also not sure where the aluminum is coming from but I read at that value shouldn’t be a issue

Both wrasses are breathing too fast. Does the tank have good aeration (not just circulation)? Also, if there isn't good flow, these isolation boxes can become sort of mini environments, and the dissolved oxygen can drop inside them, even if the O2 in the tank itself is o.k.

Not familiar with ARC lab tests but water appears good. You mentioned flashing and this may be associated with flukes (assumption). With flukes you will see scratching, skin scrapes, heavy breathing, lethargic behavior, loss of color and red or swollen gills in which some apply to your fish.
@Jay Hemdal - your thoughts?

I have a skimmer pulling air from the outside and added an airstone in the sump on Friday when I saw them struggling. I pointed a return nozzle at the acclimation box as well.

The fish were breathing fast and heavy before I was able to net them, other tank mates are breathing normally as far as I can tell, at least slower then these two.

I can proactively do fluke treatment. I have a 200 gallon with a sump and I’d guess total volume around 200 gallons with displacement.

I have prazipro on hand so 50ml dose and I assume when dosed turn off UV/Skimmer for 24 hours?

How many doses should I do and at what frequency?

Thanks again to the both of you for the help!

Cant confirm flukes but a treatment will not hurt. To be safe , dose at 80% of recommended and apply initial dosage known as an interval for 8 days, do a water change and do one more 8 day dose interval
Use airstone with prazi as it does reduce both oxygen and appetite. If running a skimmer, leave cup off first 24 hrs as skimmer will go nuts from the glycol solution in Prazi

Yeah rather be safe than sorry.

Just so I’m clear:

first dose wait 8 days
1st WC
Dose again after 1st WC and wait 8 days
2nd WC

For the UV should it be off during those 16 days or just off 24 hours after the dose?

Thanks

Correct and no UV first 48 hours for each application
