I don't waste water. I put my wc wastewater in 50g drum and use it to flush my toilets.
I think I waste 50gallons of fresh tap water down the drain doing a water change using one of these things:

I have one of these new in bag from BRS, i use a sump pump out to buckets and in to sump from container. Should prolly sell/trade it eventually.

Ypu know once you start it it's probably enough siphon to turn the water off..I used to have a python
I'm thinking about getting one of these type of pumps and hooking it up to the python tubing and then I won't even need syphon.

Emptying the sump will probably go from 15 minutes to 15 seconds.
