The petco deresa clams are so easy ime, this is mine, got him when he was around your size 2 years ago? Now he is like 6 inches across. The sand bed where he is at is getting around 100-150 pars. Survived tank crash, got nipped by a fish, alk swing, u name it.

Derasas are the easiest tridacna to care for.

They need moderate light. Nothing too extreme. About 125-225 par will be fine.

They do not need phytoplankton. That is a myth. They receive their nutritional needs from their symbiotic zooxanthella (photosynthesis).


In the ocean, Derasa clams are nested in sand. If you have a deep enough sand bed, you can gently push about an inch of the clam into the sand.

Derasa clams will survive in standard reef water quality:
