recommendation for snorkeling sites on/near GBR

No real plans yet but gonna try to visit this January/February. My wife has brain cancer and can't dive but we'd love to find some nice snorkeling sites to get a flavor for the GBR. Only drawback is it has to be somewhat easy to access for tourists which probably rules out the local's favorites. Just let me know if you have any suggestions, particularly a city to stage out of, and any help is appreciated!
