Was going to use a 20” cube as my sump and do custom baffles. Turns out it was too tall to get skimmer in and out. Glad I test stuff before I build.

Decided to run to petsmart and get a 20h on sale.

It’s derimmed and ready for clean up.

Now for the baffle mock up.

So moving right along…

Taking a page from the @Lowell Lemon playbook and ran this is the cnc.

Perfect first try. Now I will cut it in acrylic then test the other 3 pieces. The baffles are simple rectangles so they will just be cut with an Amanda acrylic blade on the table saw.

I’ll post pics later of the results.

I like the cnc - a LOT. However, I have the co2 laser a shot at one of the pieces and man what a difference. It’s Weldon ready. And super fast. This piece took 56 seconds. I do need a much better exhaust fan though.

One of the two ballasts in the noopsyche hybrid fixture is bad. That’s fine it’s $26 for another and I am removing the control because all it does is on and off for all four bulbs anyway. This way I can use two power cords and split the on/off times.

Went ahead and threw the other two bulbs on the order to get free shipping.

The colored acrylic should be here Saturday so I can finish up the sump insert pieces.

I went and traded my too big skimmer for the right size (just a bit bigger than needed)

As soon as this stuff is done it’s time for the stand then bring the tank from storage and start dismantling.

acrylic is out for delivery a day early. :)

I ordered a much more powerful exhaust fan for the laser today. For now, I will run the one I have with the door open as well and a fan pointing out of the door too.

I got the skimmer cleaned up and the color change from red to yellow done on the parts. It looks pretty wild.

I will post pics later today.

I have to relieve the corners because I forgot about the silicone beads.

However, I am really please this far with the results.

Waiting on a fresh tube of ASI to show up and then I can clean up the tank and silicone in the baffles and let it cure while I work on the stand and tank.

Here’s one with the skimmer sitting in the sump

Or is it a maybe?
Sherry lets me do what I want as long as the bills are paid and the work keeps moving forward on the house. I finished priming her office/craft room today.

I generally don’t buy anything that can’t pay for itself. So my buddy thinks I should sell baffles kits that are laser cut to pay for the bigger laser.

Turns out the ballast was not bad. :(

I went to install the new one and one of the wires fell out of an end cap. So, I stuck it back in and held it with tape to test and sure enough the lights fired up.

Now, I have ordered new end caps and will go through all 8 and make sure none are cracked like this one was.

I now have a spare ballast. lol

The brackets came in for the 3030 extrusion for the stand. I will go get it out of storage and modify it this weekend.
