Hi my names jason, I’m living in Australia, Victoria, south east of Melbourne.
Recently I’ve become extremely interested in finding a peacock mantis shrimp to buy but it appears I'm a few years late as all big aquariums near me stop selling them within the last 1-3 years (mainly due to tanks...
I noticed the start of a spirorbid worm infestation on the back panel of my tank. I have a n. wennerae mantis shrimp, 2 clowns, and a turbo snail. I've tried cutting down my feeding, but that only slowed them down. is there anything I can do to eradicate them fully?
thank you
Hello,
I have been building a 16 gallon aquarium for some time now and have acquired all my equipment. I know that I want to do a planted macro algae aquarium with some random photosynthetic sponges and a mangrove. I am pretty set in this goal.
Equipment:
-Seachem Tidal 55 Filter
-Finnex...
Hello!
As a kid, aquariums were always my main hobby. I had a simple nano FOWLR with a pair of clownfish and some inverts for many years and a low tech freshwater planted tank as well. Never really had the money to go much further than that and then college came along and I had to sell both the...
I recently ordered and received the pico package and the WYSIWYG N. wennerae mantis box from the team at TampaBay Saltwater and everything came in absolutely perfect!!
The entire ordering process was a breeze. The team is great with communication and respond very quickly, every question I had...
Tank as of 1/17/2024 a sad update…
The tank crashed and it looks like I lost everything. The pair of tiger gobies have died and the Gramma was breathing heavy on the rocks when I checked on the tank last Friday morning. It passed in a qt tank the next morning.

Hello!
have kept freshwater fish and reptiles for several years and the prospect of saltwater was always interesting but very daunting to me, but I recently got a great deal on a 90-gallon tank and felt the time was right to attempt to get into the hobby. When figuring out what to stock the...

Got an N. wennerae off of a TBS shipment so I decided to spin up a new tank to house it. Wanted something a bit more interesting than just sand and rock so the plan is to plant some mangroves into this and create something like a coastal gulf biotope.

So, I plan on getting a mantis shrimp but I’m concerned about feeding it. I’m also wondering where the cheapest place is to buy them? I’m in WA so probably online. For feeding I want to give it live food at least 2x a week, is there anyway I can keep live food over an extended period of time...
I'm soon getting a N. Wennerae Mantis shrimp and was thinking about possible tankmates/food for it. I was thinking maybe a few Cerith snails and 1 or 2 Camel shrimp. I don't know if this is too much for a 10gal, and I assume that my mantis shrimp will go to work on them once he arrives.
Background
I started in the hobby a little over two months ago with a Juwel Rio 240 litre (65 US gallons) tank and a female peacock mantis shrimp named Oatmeal (after the author of this comic). I put two small clownfish in there with her and she didn't treat them with the love and kindness I'd...
Hey guys, so I have a coastal reef macroalgae tank which I quite enjoy but I’ve wanted to house a mantis shrimp in it, one of the smaller smasher species such as a lime green, purple spot, or tiger mantis. But I’ve heard they do not do well with light as it can cause shell rot I have plenty of...
so I've stumbled upon this website called LiveMantisShrimp.com I am truly unable to find any information about it no matter where I look, it says its been around from 2013 but I somehow only recently discovered it? If anyone has any experience with the website and can tell me if its real or fake...
I've had Oatmeal, my peacock mantis shrimp for about a week and a half now and her behaviour has changed a little in the last two or three days but especially in the last few hours. Just wanted to check if any of this indication of preparation for a molt, or something anything I need to worry...
This aquarium is an evolution of my previous Innovative Marine 14 gallon peninsula. All of the Inhabitants of the Peninsula have been moved to the new Aquarium.
As seen in my previous aquarium, the inhabitants of this system are not typical or recommend for most setups. The oldest inhabitant...
Hey guys so let me give the quick run down, Ive recently become fascinated with mantis shrimp but I do lack the space for any large mantis shrimp so my lfs said they could either get me in lime mantis shrimp or purple spot mantis shrimp, and so to accommodate this I’m setting up a 5.5 gallon...
Just wanted to say hello to the community here :)
I've had a long fascination with mantis shrimps and finally decided to buy one last week. I'm completely new to the hobby unless you count a goldfish about 30 years ago, but I've been researching like mad and my knowledge is building up quickly...
I had my first encounter today with the business end of a raptorial. My G. Ternatensis didn't appreciate me trying to affix a frag near one of his lookout spots, and gave me a warning shot across the nail of my index finger. I yelped and just yanked my arm out of the tank, splashing out water...
Hey guys, I just got this mantis from my LFS, and they didn't know what species it is. The body is olive green, and I didn't notice any intersegmental stripes, but I'll get a better picture of the body when he comes out of his den. Orange meral spot, and his uropods are similar in color to the...
I’m getting real close on my cycling of my tank. I’m still like 2-3 weeks to go before I would feel comfortable with putting any livestock in the tank least of all a mantis shrimp. But I think I’m close enough now where I can begin to formulate a plan around what live stock to put into the tank...
How to tell if your Mantis Shrimp is Male (a boy)
After being asked, and me actually asking this question long ago, I decided to post a thread to help people discover the gender of a mantis shrimp. There's no real detail on telling if the shrimp is a girl, all you will see are two spots on the...
