Welcome to the 2023 Grow-Out Contest, featuring Corpse of Helltrollsman Man!!!!

IMG_20230928_075749.png

This thread will be used for monthly submissions of your growing frag progress!

THE RULES

Rule 1: Competition will last for One Year.

Rule 2: The initial submission (baseline) must be measured on the included frag plug, with the official ruler, within 7 days of reciept.

Rule 3: The last submission must be within 365 days of your first official entry.

Rule 4: The provided ruler must be against your frag for every months’ submission photo.

Rule 5: A picture must be submitted by the end of the month, every month. The last calendar day of each month is the absolute deadline, local time will be considered valid for deadline purposes. I have given a little leeway on this in the past, but we have three organizers this time around, and so to make it easier on them there will be no deviation.

5.1 Optionally this may be accompanied by Calcium, Alkalinity, Magnesium, and Salinity readings. You may choose to include Nitrate and Phosphate as well.

Rule 6: You can remove the coral from the plug and mount it anywhere that you choose. If placed on a disk it can be moved around the tank. I encourage experimentation with placement as no two frags will grow the exact same, and some can be so picky that a half an inch makes a difference between no growth and explosive growth.

Feel free to PM me or @Battlecorals with any questions regarding the contest.

You make take up to 2 non-consecutive months 'off' without submitting a photo, PM your contest lead if you would like to request this.

When submitting your entry, please @StatelineReefer @BranchingHammer and @Reefing102 so that we may note it in our records.

In the event you change your screenname from the one listed in the first post, please contact an event organizer to make the change official in our records.

Day 1 submission for HTMM, this one's showing the most color of the 3 for me at the start (when I've got actinic on and orange lenses).

I attached my most recent ICP and a screenshot of my Apex parameters, no fake numbers here =)

* I started Moonshiners two days ago and have begun correcting some of the parameters from the ICP test (K, Fe, Al). I'm also doing the standard daily dosing, but no mud or vitamins yet.

* I'm also dosing:
** 30ml of Acro Power per day
** 8L of Kalk
** currently 43mL of All for Reef (I'll probably end up reducing this as I get more into Moonshiners).

* PE on my established millis is 4-5mm with the BC ruler, so it seems to be working for me.

Well I'm in the delayed packages group. Figured while we wait for more of us to get some frags we can also share some info and photos of our systems.

I run a 120gal display, sps dominant. Super excited to get started with this contest! I was lucky enough to place second in the bloodbank battle this past year and am really looking forward to getting to know some of you guys and how differently we all are running our systems.

Hopefully my frag arrives safe and sound from its 2 day travel adventure and I'll be posting my initial competition photo tomorrow.

Cheers! And good luck everyone.

Can we not remove and place on our own plug for our first baseline picture? I never put anyone’s plugs in my tank, even awesome vendors that I know are great at what they do.

Oh great! Thank you. It’s more my paranoia than anything. Obviously your corals have always been amazing which is why you are my go to vendor!!
im with you100%, I have the very same philosophy! er paranoia. "no exceptions". it's the way to go.

Day 0. After 48hrs in shipping the helltrollman is finally in the tank. Looks like it's going to pull through just has the shipping stress still, can't wait to see the polyps come put and this guy to start coloring up. It's currently sitting in a spot that has over 400par under my reefbreeders fixture. I'm also considering another spot that would put it in a little higher lighting eventually.
My test results as of 10/23/23-
Salinity- 1.026
Alk-7.5
P0⁴- .5 (not a typo its .5)
NO³- 34.2
Ca- 406
Mg- 1350

I have a “some exceptions” policy. So far the only exception is Battlecorals doesn’t get dipped. Only acclimated. I know what your dipping regimen is, and mine doesn’t come close.

I do, however, do a fishless frag system to ensure no fish diseases make it into the display.
