In the summer we keep the temperature around 81F, so, normally a 1/6 HP chiller would be enough to keep my 90G DT+20G sump at 74F (seahorses).

However, some very stubborn family members won't let me keep air conditioning on during the summer holidays in July-August, when nobody is at home.
Without the air conditioning and a chiller, tank water can climb up to 92F. To keep the tank at 74F in this period, I'd need a 1/4 HP chiller.

In this situation -- does it make sense to buy a 1/4 HP chiller to use in both periods of the year, or would it be way too oversized to be used with air conditioning, when the room temperature is 81F?
I'd only use its actual power when everyone's on holiday, and I'm worried about short-cycling when air conditioning is on.

To recap:
PeriodAir ConditioningMax Tank Water Temp.Desired TemperatureChiller size
July-AugustCan't be used during holidays92F74F1/4 HP
June-SeptemberAC Is ON81F74F1/6 HP

Thanks a lot for any insight!
This problem is really giving me a headache!

You would surprised on how effective chillers are. I have a 180 total volume where my water temp will get to 83+ right now and we re not even at the Texas summer peaks yet. I’m using a 1/10 HP antica chiller and it is easily drops me down to 76. Maybe you don’t need that big of a chiller.
