Figured I would make a actual thread on my sump build

This is what I got so far

10 gallon tank
I have 3 baffles so far too make a bubble trap
I think I done them wrong though
The two outside ones are 8" high and the center one has a 1/2" gap

Was I supposed to make the 3 piece shorter?

And also what do I need for my return pump side?
A 3 piece bubble trap like I have on the over flow side?

Dana thanks, I understood after I made this thread :) I'm working on it now.

But the split baffle I think I'm going to put a regular baffle before it so I can stuff some filter floss between them. Right now im running a hob filter and it pulls a lot of stuff out so I want something similar so I can pull it out ya know. So I'll do a full baffle them the split baffle then the bubble trap I already have in it.. sound good?

No prob. You can do that if you really want. I just grabbed a large piece of course pad from my fish store, then I cut it to fit snug in my drain chamber. My drain tube empties on to of foam pad. Helps keep it quiet and filters big stuff. Then If I want floss I put it between my bubble trap baffles to filter more

Ok I think I got it done. I was in a hurry and forgot about the piece I used to raise the middle of the bubble trap up... doh

Yeah I had to remove one of the bubble trap walls to remove pieces I had center glass raised up with. Then had to resilicone the side back on

Ok I got my float switches figured out but I noticed one problem.

When my aqua lifter pump shuts off it kept pouring water into my sump the pump shut off but it has a siphon. I raised the tube on the sump side up and I'm hoping that fixes it so far it seems to. The level in my bucket for my ato water is higher than my sump level and I want to be able to fill the bucket all the way up. I have the tube pouring the water back into the sump and it pours the water on top of my float switches I hope this won't hurt them but it's the only way I can keep the noise down.

I made a hoffer gurgle buster to stop the noise in my overflow. No more gurgling just a water tricking type of sound. Makes it a little easier to sleep

Now I just have to figure the downtube into the sump part. Right now I have piece of filter floss rubber banded around the end of the tube

Any pics of your progress?
For my sump I made a reverse Durso that drains on top of a foam floss pad. I used foam to cover the drain side and keep the water from getting everywhere. Micro Bubbles make a mess when they pop

You have any pics of the downtube side of your sump Dana?

I've noticed in the middle chamber of my sump I'm getting a film on top the water... I know I need a skimmer I just don't know what I need to buy. I need something small obviously

Ok I need suggestions on a skimmer. I want something that works good and will fit in my small sump but also want something that I won't have to empty the collection cup daily. My whole deal is I want to have a setup that can take care of itself on a weekly basis preferably. I work a lot and don't have time to do anything until my days off

I think that won't fit I'm wanting to say I've got about a 4"x4" space in my overflow side of my sump. I'm thinking maybe a hob skimmer would work good if the pump isn't too big

You should check out the aquatic life mini skimmer. It's rated for 30 gallons (can't remember how many gallons you have). They have good ratings.

36 gallon display, 10 gallon sump

It looks like you're out of options for a skimmer in my opinion. For the size you have and the amount of gallons you have, I'd say you'll have to get a high quality mini skimmer (maybe a tunze?) and make sure you don't over feed or over stock.

I do think tunze might fit though. And they're very good skimmers.
