AF-RS170 Automatic Filter Roller for Red Sea 170 - AquaMaxx

Bulk Reef Supply is no longer carrying this product. I have looked around to find replacement rolls.
Does anybody have any idea what I can use for a substitute?

That always bothered me about roller mats. Did you find anything yet? Can you order a few new ones and return the ones that don’t fit?

I believe the Red Sea ReefMat 250 replacement rolls may work. I bought one and will be trying it to make sure when my current Aquamaxx AF-RS170 replacement roll is done. It shows width of 3.2" on the website, which is very close if not the same width to the Aquamaxx rolls.

Another option might be the Nuvo AIO mid/full size fleece roller replacements. The product questions page shows approx width is 3" so pretty close to the Aquamaxx. Make sure you try the mid/full size not the desktop size.

Aquamaxx says the rolls for the AF-RS170 are 3.5" but I believe it is actually closer to 3".

fwiw I was able to drop the AF-RS170 right into the drain section of my sump and connect PVC tubing to the overflow drainpipe, allowing me to have a fleece roller with no modifications to my OEM sump (except use of OEM ATO reservoir). You can get these for under $100 (albeit discontinued), quite the savings from others out there. Love the roller fleece units but couldn't justify $400+ on a unit.

The Red Sea 250 fleece is the right size for the 170 Aqua Maxx

Except for the tube roll holder

I'm just going to Dremel one side of the Aqua Maxx spool so that the Red Sea or IM rolls fit on the spool

It doesn't appear that will affect the function in anyway

The only thing slowing my roller project down, is replacing the Red Sea ATO

Any update on this?
I bought that last known new model

They don't make any more, and I can't find anymore at any vendors

The Red Sea 250 fleece works perfect in it. I had to dremel down one side of the spool holder. Can't even tell it was molded to fit the spool

The IM fleece rolls are the correct width, but the spool is far too small to use on this filter. Too bad, they are a good price, 6 for 50 bucks or so

Red Sea 250s in 2packs are now available for $20 at vendors, not Amazon

What else do you want to know?

Part of the flange that holds it in place, snapped first time I put it in. CA glue worked until the last roll change. You can see it broken in the image

It stinks outside the tank if the door is left open

Ok, was just wondering about the replacement filters.
My sensor is also shot; and I don’t know if I can get a replacement now, pretty disappointing.
