I am setting up a broodstock tank for my Grade A/Snowcasso pair (A. Percula). The tank is a marineland 45g cube (24"x24"x18") and they will be the only ones in it. I have a 6-7 inch neon green haddoni in another tank that i would consider putting in the broodstock tank after it is stable (6+ months). The tank has been setup for a few weeks now with LR, live sand, and a 4 inch clay pot.

Current tank lights: AquaticLife 24" 6 bulb T5

My questions are:

Would it be a bad idea to have a carpet in the broodstock tank?

Would it be a better idea to put a bta instead?

Or should i just leave it as is with only the pot?

Here are a couple pics of the tank:

set up looks good. I would recommend a screen top though. you never know. would be so sad to lose one from the pair from jumping. :(

I'd recommend a BTA over a carpet simply because the carpet will obstruct your view of the eggs.

I have friends with spawning saddlebacks that only knew their pair was nesting because the male would disappear under the carpet for 7 days at a time. Not a fun way to plan your hatch.

Oh, and good idea overall. I think satisfying the need to find a host is a good thing.
