Picked up a few Astrea snails today. Looking under a scope, one of them had a black dot with white worm like tentacles and at each end was a dandelions seed type structure that was grabbing at debris in the specimen jar. Not worth the $2 to put this in the tank but was wondering if these are hydroids or something else? Thanks

It's difficult to say for sure, but I think you made the right move. What was the texture of the black part?
The black is hard and crusty. The long white stalks wiggled like worms and the little polyp things grabbed at particulates.

Yeah, looks like probably Sphaerocorynid (taxonomic family Sphaerocorynidae) hydroids of some kind - the ball tips are distinctive.
yup, that's exactly what they looked like. Thanks. Can't imagine if I put that in the tank with the slow movement of the snail depositing it everywhere.
