AZNO3 where to dose?

I am going to begin using AZNO3 to remove nitrates in my aquarium. Where should this be dosed? Directly to the tank or through a filter sock or skimmer intake?

I did return chamber but the product never did anything for me. This was years ago before I got things to click into gear.

AZNO3 is, I believe, just an organic carbon dosing method, like vinegar or vodka or NOPOX.

I liked to dose upstream of a large rock filled refugium to encourage bacteria to grow there rather than somewhere visible in the display tank.
