"best" method for plugging drill tank?

so I have a 40br that I will turn into a QT tank that was drilled in the back. I want to plug up the hole.

I was thinking bulk head with a small piece of PVC caped off. ( with a few eter wraps of pink Teflon tape

or silicone a pieces of glass to both sides...

If you use a threaded bulkhead, you can buy a PVC plug that screws right in. Or if using a slip bulkhead, glue a short piece of PVC and a cap onto the flanged side, so you can screw the nut on or off allowing you to install or remove the capped bulkhead.

Could always cut it off if you want to reuse

yes it is glass tank forgot that detail.

both options would work I guess was wondering if one was better than the other and why?
what is nice is that both can be removed if I ever need a drilled 40br

Getting silicone off glass if you ever need to remove it is a pain. The residue doesn't want to go away!

I did not know that... I had one heck of a time with this tank and bulkheads leaking tho. then I upgraded to a 90 because of that then now an even bigger tank. so I blame leaking bulk heads for that..haha

I've had to put 2 gaskets on some bulkhead fittings before, one inside and one out. Also, make sure it is centered on the hole, kinda have to do it by feel.

Silicone comes right off with razor. Then wipe with denatured alcohol and gone

I thought the same thing. if I go glass I was gonna add one to each side just in case...
i'll price out a cpl pieces of plate glass tomorrow.

I would cap it w/ a plug as previously mentioned, done it many times.
I once had a display that was drilled several areas at bottom for closed loops, never an issue.

ah good point tank will have copper/prazipro

if you use a bulkhead do not use pipe thread tape. that’s not what it’s for. instead, use la-co plastico joint stik.

I would just keep it simple and silicone a couple pieces of glass on each side and be done with it. One piece of glass on the inside of the tank would be enough. Then again people could turn this into a multi page thread unnecessarily.
