I'm pretty sure it's a merletti. B. wellsi has a skeleton like a normal brain coral, while B. merletti has long tube-like structures that the polyps come out of. B. merletti polyps tend to be around 5-8 mm when opened. B. wellsi polyps can be well over 1 cm.

110 percent Wellsi. I have a couple colonies of Merletti and they are completely different. Merletti grows with almost a finger like skeleton with a small head on the top. i also have Wellsi just like the on you have pictured. Nice looking piece!

Take a look ot the top polyp in the picture from the link. It is attached directly to the rock like a brain coral would be. I have never seen a Merletti like that, only Wellsi. Then again, of course I have not seen every form of Wellsi nor Merletti. I have attached a picture of the mature colony of Merletti that I have. The heads are about the size of my small finger nail maybe a little bigger. Either way, very nice looking piece!
