New to reef and my biocube is currently cycling.

I've been looking for a gfo and carbon reactor and they seem so simple to make instead of spending so much for a small setup. So, I did some searching and came up with this.

DIY List
Voss bottle 3.00
Home Depot stuff
3/8 in ID x 1/4 MIP 4.50
3/8 scrap acrylic cylinder 2.00
SharkBite 1/2x1/2 FNPT black thing on top :D (forced to buy 5 pk)11.00

My question is, does it matter how the return water comes out of the reactor? Looking at the Voss bottle I am using, it will be tricky to screw in a 90 at the top for the return water. I believe I have 2 options with option #2 being an eye sore for myself.

1) drill holes at the top of the cylinder just under the threads and have the water waterfall out from under the grey cap (between cylinder and cap).

2) drill a hole on the cylinder about .5 from the bottom of the grey cap and have a 90* followed by some 5/8 hose into the sump so no water splashes.

Gfo arrives tomorrow but for now im running pure carbon.
Here is a test run. I went with 8 holes@1/4 size. The water is coming out from between the lid and the cylinder.
Current seems a bit to strong as some carbon is tumbling. Tomorrow I'll go buy a 5/8 valve to adjust the flow.
