I just got a maxima clam from Algaebarn. It arrived without a foot. I placed it in the tank and it’s starting to open. I emailed Algaebarn and they told me it’s normal. Should I be alarmed?

they have the ability to drop their foot, it will eventually grow back.
make sure its on a secure part of the rock scape where it wont fall over and it should be fine.

Let it rest for a few days in a secure spot. If it moves, it has the foot intact. Even better, if you gently wiggle it and it is stuck, it may have stuck on with a byssal thread.

They will typically drop the byssal threads (bundle) during shipping if they are attached to something and will regrow or attach with fresh byssal threads.
