Does anyone else have experience with their clowns “hosting” an overflow? So the male In particular likes to put his entire body up against the overflow and will also hover on his side up against it. The female does it sometimes but it seems like she mostly goes over there to nudge the male. Seeing the male on its side kind of freaks me out. It looks very similar to a struggling fish about to die but he always swims away fine.

They’ve done this since the beginning but the laying on the side move seems more exaggerated. Which is what’s concerning me. The other tank mates and corals are fine. I just don’t know what to make of it. TIA

45gal cube been up since December 2019

Tried taking some pics of them in the act but you know how their behavior changes when you get close to the glass.

My male clown does the exact same thing. Looks like he’s dead but then gets up and swims around like nothing. Scares me sometimes
It seriously freaks me out at times, but I already feel much better after hearing your guys experiences. So I really appreciate y’all sharing.

I had a pair of 9 year olds that eventually hosted the corner glass, Wouldn’t take any other coral I gave them. They tried hosting BTA, the hammer, frogspawn and elegance. But the corner was an upgrade from the vortech powerhead they would lay on at night. When they lay in the side it’s like they are dead and sucked to the powerhead, but no just sleeping.

then one day they decided to make it their permanent home for their offspring.

ridiculous when they had a mansion to live in.

My 4 clowns do the exact same thing. I figure that way they can sleep while still having a current over their gills?

Same thing happened to me with my new clowns yesterday. I thought he was being sucked in and was close to pulling him out until he just decided to swim away. Clowns are weird lol
