Coral Database on R2R??

We were discussing possible new ways on improving the site and one of the things mentioned was a coral database, where corals are listed by species and common names such as "Mummy Eye" or "Oregon Tort" etc. where members could go to look up their coral of choice and find listed along with a picture of the coral, information on the care requirements for that particular coral. The information would contain lighting and placement suggestions,flow requirements,information regarding feeding and what to feed the coral, what the advantages of feeding the coral would provide, weather it be better coloration or increased growth and any other information regarding that particular coral.


what they need from you guys/girls is pictures of your corals and any information regarding the husbandry of that corals, tips etc. They are hoping to obtain enough corals to start a database, so add those pics here along with the requirements for keeping that piece colored up and growing.

also, any suggestions would be greatly welcomed toward making the database happen...Thanks

Description: Blasto comes in a few different colors with a lighter colored center. It is an easy coral to keep as it doesn't require alot of fuss. Moderate flow and lighting is it's only requirements. It will gain much of it's nutrition from nutrients in the water as well as the lights but it's diet can be supplemented with foods such as phyto, cyclop-eeze, DT's and marine snow or anything designed for filter feeding animals. A slow drip acclimation over a few hours is suggested for this animal.

Description: One of the most impressive corals available in the hobby today, coloration is what makes this coral so highly sought after, and is definitely one of a kind. Weekly feedings of mysis shrimp or meaty foods are readily accepted and will aid in encouraging growth. Colonies in the wild are massive. Corallites are circular and closley compacted in shallow water, more widely spaced in deeper water. Septa are fine, numerous and regular. Paliform lobes are usually poorly developed. It's habitat in the wild consist of all reef enviroments, in captivity moderate/ low lighting under Metal Halides seem to produce the best coloration.

Where's the template? Being primarily an SPS guy, a coral's colony and corallite growth forms are more important identifying characteristics than color or other descriptors. However, since this is primarily a hobbyist forum, it probably is not of too much interest to the majority of your community.

Sorry if I sound kinda noobish here, but could you please clarify what each actually mean? Ive never heard some of these words being used before.

The growth rate is also important to me. I like to know if a coral grows slow or fast.

i agree with cee about growth forms, even if the majority arent doing sps exclusively, so many people like me say im never going to do sps when they start, then end up having predominantly sps tanks. so it will be good info for people starting into sps that dont know much. what about the scientific name for sps a lot of stuff no one knows for sure what it is.
