Hi all,

I went through a few related posts already and now I have a specific question.

I started having issues probably some 4 months ago. First on the substrate and then on rocks as well. Finally about 2 months ago I started seeing some sps tissue dying on the tips and this algae growing on those white tips.

Is it possible to tell from this pic if this is dino or cyano? (Or at least more likely)

Thanks!

Looks like cyano from picture just based on the sliminess look and color. Dions will usually be brownish in color. What are your parameters of the tank? The more information we have the better we can help.

Tank is 260gal (RS Reefer 1000)
Running since July 2023.
Heavy Bioload.
RS ReefMat 1200.
Bubble King DX 200.
Icecap Algae Scrubber.
AquaUV 57w.
Ozotech 200.
Geo Kalk Reactor.
Kessil AP9x x3
MP60s x2

Ph has always stayed on the lower end. 7.8-8.2. And lately 7.8-8.
Kh in the 8.5-9.
Ca in the high 400s.
Mg in the mid 1200s.
All measured by Trident.

Tank had pretty steady and ok levels for phosphate and nitrate until mid December that the skimmer pump (or controller) stopped working. And it took Royal Exclusiv over a month to figure out and send me a replacement pump/controller.
I was travelling and couldn't do water changes. So being with no skimmer for 6 weeks really affected but the cyano/dino problem started before that.

Phosphate used to be under 0.1 and nitrate between 15 and 20 until the skimmer problem.
Then it raised to 0.57 and to 39.
Since I came back I've been bringing those values down with RowaPhos and water changes to 0.07 and 26.

On either the high end or zero, pest stuff appears cause it likes those conditions.
Just put them back in check with WC and continue stable conditions and it will get outcompeted again by the good guys.
