I'm curious about the answer to the original question either way. Even if it turns out this peeve can be put in the tank with no sealant, what should be used if it needs it?

There are various brush-on sealants that can be used. I've done some articles coral making in my day and I used all kinds of sealants, foams, release agents, pigments, etc, etc, etc.
