I obtained two dragon soul torches a couple weeks ago. Right now they are in a frag holder on my sand bed. It appears that they are lightening up. These are my first two torches and I’m not sure if it’s because they are expanding more and will eventually gain more color or if they need to be raised higher in the tank. I run a reefbreeder photon v2+ light that has great coverage throughout the tank. The blues are pretty much on 100% throughout the day with about 3-4 hours of some white. My tank is about 24” deep and the light sits about 10-12” above the water. All my levels seem to be in decent range. Alk might be a little low at 7.7 though. Phosphates and nitrates have been at 0 (trying to raise a little). I appreciate all the help. The pics are when the color was good I’ll try to grab a pic of what it looks like now

I don’t think yours look bad at all lol

one of them ended up dying because the skeleton was cracked the other has colored up nicely. Sorry to hear about yours. I was told lower par helps with the gold but I’m not sure if that’s proven.

Sorry to hear about that. I’m hoping mine turns around. I’m wondering if dosing aminos might help.

I started to use the Red Sea reef energy plus. It’s only been about a month so not a huge difference yet but figured I’d give it a try

Hello, I know it’s been years since you post this, but did you had any luck getting more gold on your torch’s?

That tank has since been broken down. I was a noobie at the time. Looking back though… it was definitely a lighting issue. I had two kessil A160s that were probably only running at about 50% and one T5 . This was on a 4’ Aqueon 75g. WAY under lit. This is a pic of it..

How did you fix it? Did you replace the lights or just more intensity?

Tbh. I tore that tank down and rehomed it after a nasty Dino outbreak. If I could go back though, I’d ramp those old a160s to 100%. I have a torch right now that sits in about 100-150 par and gets medium flow. It’s very bright and looks happy. Alk 9 Ca 450 Mg 1400 NO3 12.5 PO4 .08 Ph averages 8.
