Drain plumbing question

Hi Friends, plumbing my first tank and have a question. The overflow box drains have male threads to secure the drains into the box, so is best practice to use, for example, a female x slip union then the drain pipe (thus utilizing the threads that remain protruding after the nut) or simply insert and pvc glue a short length of pvc then a slip x slip union? Or is it just dealer’s choice?

The outside threads on the bulkhead should not be used to attach plumbing. They are specifically for the nut that secures the bulkhead to the tank. The threads are made differently from those for plumbing.
