I have a sps dominated frag display tank at this point.

Running 3 - xr30w gen 4 over a 180 gallon tank

Tank measures 24x24x72

Lights are 12 inches above water surface

I use an adjusted version of the SPS PHX14. Previous light setup was; 3 - 250wt metal halides supplemented with a reefbrite 72” led actinic strip.

With halides I ran a 4.5 hour photoperiod and the actinic’s ran a total of 8 hours

My sps frags had good growth and good coloring but wanted to spend less on buying bulbs, and utilities. The xr30w gen 4’s give me more options, versatility and will last a lot longer.

Before buying the “Radions" I did a lot of research on the web. Did some reading on forums. Spoke with other LED users and took the advice from WWC.

What ever I do ACCLIMATE SLOWLY!!!

I am currently in the 5th and last week of the acclimation process. Thankfully, no burnouts, and no bleaching whatsoever.

My schedule works for me and for my tank. Others may opt to make changes to this schedule in order for it to work for them. But GO slow with your CHANGES and give time for your corals to get used to the new light source and intensity.

This light schedule is adjusted over a 24 hour time period. I work late so when I come home I want to see my tank.

At 12:05am lights come back on at 5% with deep blue setting. The channels RB,UV and V at 100%. Lights are all out at 1:30am. Lights start back up at 9:30am at 5% with deep blue setting. By 11:45am the intensity has ramped up to 40%. Love seeing this color in the LED’s as it makes the corals pop with color. This is my 1st feeding time. After 12 noon lights start to ramp back down 5% every 15 mins. Lights ramp back up at 5:30pm still in the deep blue setting. The settings go from “Deep Blue” to “All Blue”. Channels B, RB,UV and V at 100% but intensity at 10%.

As the evening progresses intensity increases and peaks at 40% and I go from the “All Blue” to the “20K setting.” Here you see all the channels at various settings which are more in line with the SPS PHX14. The ramp down starts and by 12 midnight the lights go out.

This may to some not have enough of a “daylight” photo period but for me it is just fine and the corals may lose a little color but from what I can tell not very much.

I am using the Apex Fusion which allows me to incorporate cloud coverage where ever I want it. Cloud coverage is not random but its nice to give the corals a brief break every so often but at the same hour everyday. Perhaps one day this will change.

My next plan of action is to increase my peak and length of photo period.

Weeks 6 and 7 = 45%

Weeks 8 and 9 = 50%

Weeks 10 and 11 = 55% and so on till I get to 60/65%.

Here is my schedule:

What spectrum are you running? It's subtle but I can see the difference in light output between the middle and the side Radions.

at the time when the pic was taken it was 70% AB+ program on all lights.
it was changed latter to be 60% on the G4 and 65 for the G3's
