Hi, I came down this morning to find my tank all cloudy and my shrimp and fish are dead and corals not lookong too good. I have checked for amonial and its only 0.1.

The skimmer has been a bit intermittent since I installed it so yesterday I tried a more powerful air pump. Could this be the issue? I have removed it this morning and done a small water change. So sad!

When both fish and invertebrates dying, you can rule out fish disease. This sounds like a water quality issue. Please give us as much additional information as you can about the tank.

The additional air pump shouldn’t have been an issue.

How long has the tank been set up?
What ammonia test are you using?

Not a skimmer issue as with new tanks, they will be intermittent. I suspect new tank experiencing spikes with ammonia and nitrate and associated with water, possible oxygen issue and water quality already mentioned by Jay.
How did you cycle tank and for how long?
Did you acclimate fish and how?

Amonia, less than 0.25 PPM using an API ammonia test kit
Nitrate 19 ppm using Hanna
Alk- 9.1 DKH using Hanna
Salinity 29.8 PPM using wand
Calcium 549 PPM using Hanna
The tank is only 8 weeks old. It has quite a lot of coral (all looking OK but finger leather and toadstool leather look miserable)
I did a 30% water change yesterday as well as increase the air supply to the skimmer.
