Hello, was curious what most of guys are using for your tank cover, glass top or net cover. I know there are pros and cons for each. I have thinking about giving the DIY net cover a try, just wondering what most of you guys are using.

Glass Top or Net/Screen Top

Thanks

I have used both. The glass top greatly reduces evaporation and the amount of top off water. Downside is you have to keep them clean.

I ran kalkwasser for a bit and switched to a diy net cover. The amount of evaporation off the tank in very dry Colorado was intense. I stopped running kalk in an attempt to simplify my setup and switched back to the glass tops. I haven’t seen any negative impact from the glass tops.

I like screen over glass for a couple of reasons. I have had fish jump so hard that if they hit glass instead of screen, they may have been injured. Also, there is less gas exchange with glass, which I do not like. As mentioned, heat could be an issue. But for those in the frozen north may want the heat, glass could be a plus during the cold months.
