I emptied most of my sump to do a large water change on my tank. I thoroughly cleaned the prefilter on my mag 12 with hot water, refilled the sump, and restarted the pump.

My tank was then filled with a large amount of white stringy stuff, almost like white hairs, that took 1-2 hours to clear up. What could it be? The only thing I could thing of was the water stirred up my refugium? Fish and corals seem OK but where is this crap coming from?

Now that I'm thinking, I have been bringing up my magnesium levels with Kents tech m to kill off some byprosis, and when it dies off it turns white, could it be all the dead byprosis? Where does it get trapped?
