Hi, I just wanted to ask for advice setting up my heater. I have a heater that doesn't have its own thermostat, so if it's plugged in and there is power to the outlet, the heater is on. These are the settings I have set for it on my Profilux to keep my temperature within a range of 0.36, does everything look correct here?

I also want an alarm to go off if the temperature is 1.4 degrees out of range, does "deactivate control" automatically shut that outlet off?

If an alarm does go off I would also like to get an email for it, is this set up correctly?

Finally, I would like to set the heater outlet to default to Off if the powerbar loses connection to the Profilux, is there a way to do that?
Thank you.

Another thing that I would like is to be able to log every time the outlet turns on or off so that I can see how much wear and tear it is getting. Is there a way to do this?

To assign a default OFF for the switch the heater is on go to SYSTEM > PROFILUX AQUATIC BUS > select the GEAR ICON next to the power bar you want to change. If you want the switch to default to off you make sure it’s not highlighted.

I don’t log but I do chart my temp.

My peaks and valleys are only 1/10 of a degree.

Excellent, looks like they are all off by default.

Mine have been as well since I started using the Profilux probe to control the heater instead of a different heater controller. But I still wish I could find a good reliable heater controller to give me another layer of security.

The New BRS one would probably do.
I have one aquatop heater controller plugged into my GHL power bar. I have the heater control set for 1 degree warmer than my GHL control system set at. During the winter I run two heaters, both set up the same.

The BRS one doesn't seem to be working for me, I'm not sure if it's the controller or the probe but it makes my temp fluctuate quite a bit even when it's set to 0.3. That is why I now have the heating element plugged directly into my Profilux powerbar.

Thanks, I believe the only difference to my current settings are to deactivate control when an alarm goes off?
I'm not exactly certain, but I think the deactivate control will turn the outlet off for either a high or low temperature alarm. You may not want the heater deactivated for a low temperature alarm. I have deactivate control off for this reason, I also have it off since it also controls my cooling fans.

Set the BRS controller above the GHL, this way the GHL will control and the BRS will be the backup.

On second thought, I'm not sure it's a good idea to be cycling power to the BRS controller constantly.

I don't have any experience with the BRS controller, but I'm surprised with the fluctuation. Have you reached out to BRS to see what they say?

I am in contact with BRS and I think I'm going to send it back to them for testing. If I hadn't bought the Ghl controller I would have had no idea that my temp was fluctuating that much.

The fluctuation of 1 degree isn’t that much at all. Allot of variables need to be considered. Tank size, placement of heating element to sensor, temp of room the tank is in.

During the summer my tank temp swing is 2 degrees on average.

It's an 80g tank with a 40g sump, the heater and temp probes are in the same compartment but the heater is in the front and the probes are in the back. Room temp is always 73-75.

A lot of my corals have receded since I've started using the new heater and controller. I can't say for sure that the temp swings are causing it but they do seem to have stabilized since I've switched heater control over to the Profilux.

I wouldn’t say novel.. I live in AZ and in the winter we keep the house cooler during the winter 68deg. In the warmer months the house is 73-78. When it’s warmer out the heater doesn’t need to work hard at all so I only have 1 500w unit. But in the winter it has a tough time keeping up so doubling up on heaters spreads the work load of the heaters. Thus stabilizing the tank temp at a steady 78.6

Exactly. I added a 150 in the sump with the 250 hoping it’ll help at night when the furnace sets back. (Denver)
