Hey fam!

So I’m on day 5-6 of a bacterial bloom maybe?

It kind of looks like a silt bloom, I didn’t pre rinse, never have in over 10+ years and this is my first tank to do it. Now I’m cycled after 3 months and 5-6 days ago it started again!

I’ve been changing socks and filter

I have a pistol shrimp but don’t think it’s the cause of that!

I’ve thought of cleaning rear chambers in AIO, looked yesterday and there’s a lot more build up on bottom than I want.

Should I do a bigger water change? I’m getting mixed reviews

If it is a bacteria bloom, nothing you can really do except wait. It just looks bad, but won't harm any livestock.

If its silt from sand maybe try running some more mechanical filtration to try to get it out, water changes, etc...

I’m torn because silt sticks to the pump and the return nozzles and all that! The bloom wouldn’t do that but it looks like a bloom! Ughhhh lmaooooo

A white filter pad in a hob filter or something should tell you pretty quick, if it turns brown, then it's silt.

Personally I would wait it out, its odd to have a silt storm 3-4 months after the tank has been up. Bacteria bloom will clear in about a week or so, but either bacteria or silt, it won't hurt anything either way.

When to mix up fish meal: When was the last time you tried a different brand of food for your reef?
