I’ve had this hammer coral in m my tank for about 2 years. It has grown from 2 heads to well over 20. Does anyone have one this big or bigger? Just wondering how big they will grow in captivity.

I had one that was 2 heads to 15-20 in 1 year. Unfortunately that one was lost a few months ago so currently it’s a case of how big is my collection…

They will outgrow your tank given the opportunity. I’ve had colonies half the size of a basketball before.
In the wild they can cover LARGE areas.

There was once a story on ReefBuilders of a LFS that had a single colony on wall hammer that took up an entire 75G tank…. The colony itself WAS the liverock there was nothing else in the tank. And that’s in captivity.

EDIT: It’s actually a 90G (still same footprint tho) and then got upgraded again to a 200G

If that article is correct on their timeline that coral is almost 35 years in captivity….
I’m only 37 years old myself
New challenge…
Keep a coral thriving for 40+ years.

I wonder how old the longest coral in captivity is.
