Took a few days to visit family. Thank God for Auto top off and dosing pumps!

11/27 - Alk @ 10:20 - 6.85dkh

I was not expecting my levels to drop, so I guess I need to add some more time to my dosing pumps.

Not sure if this is the best way to get my levels back on track, but seeing they are so low, I went ahead and hand dosed:

@ 10:45pm added 90ml Alk
@ 11:35pm added 90ml Cal

This should bring the alk back up to around 7.4dkh. (Used BRS calculator to determine dose amount)

Also, I went ahead and adjusted my dosing pumps and added another 24 minutes (26.4ml).

I am now dosing a total of 228.8ml of both Alk & Cal every 24hrs.

Let me know if this is what I should be doing to get everything back to normal.

Thanks guys!

That plan sounds fine. :)

11/29 - alk @ 9:45pm - 7.3dkh

Changed out Carbon & GFO - mixed and put in reactor.

ROX 0.8 Carbon - Added 1.33 cups per BRS Calculator

BRS Granular GFO - Added 1.75 cups 1/2 of what is recommended by BRS Calculator

Cleaned Skimmer Cup
Changed Filter Socks
Topped off dosing containers

One of my MP40's failed due to precipitation inside the pump - cleaned and is now working properly.

I am noticing that I have precipitation inside of my MP40's, my return pumps, and a very small amount on my heater. My sponges and GFO/Carbon Mix that I changed out was also hard in my reactor. When I did my water change yesterday, I also noticed some of my sand is clumping together.

Is this normal? Is this not signs of over dosing? If so, what should I do? When I was dosing less, my alk was dropping.

Please advise.

I have documented my actions and test results fairly well, so hopefully you will be able to look back to see what I am doing wrong.

Thank you Randy.

12/1 @ 11:00pm - Calcium is low.. not sure if I should also add alk, but for now I am going to add 600ml of calcium and see what my readings are tomorrow. When using the BRS calculator, it shows this dose should raise my calcium level to around 370ppm. If so, I will dose more tomorrow to get my level around 400 or so..

Hoping this will not lower my alk (dkh)

12/2 - alk @ 9:45pm - 7.0dkh
Cal @ 10:00pm - 385ppm

My dosing pumps are still dosing 228.8ml of both alk and cal every 24hrs.

Should I hand dose anything?

Well, I checked the BRS calculator and it said to bring your calcium up to 425 you need to add 800 ml of solution. I don't see you catching up on your dosing schedule. I would bump it up so you can see a small increase everyday.

I would increase dosing on both so ALK doesn't drop. How many doses are you doing a day and how far apart? Where are you dosing in your system?

Do you use BRS 2-part?

I am dosing 8 doses of alk, one each hour at night. Same with calcium, but during the day.

Dosing in the sump, next to the skimmer output.

If I am already seeing precipitation, would increasing the dose amount cause more?

If I was going to adjust my dosing, how much should I raise it?

Thanks

Yes, I just dose every hour alternating ALk and CAL. From watching the BRS videos they recommend high flow area. I dose into my return section in my sump. The ALK is cloudy and if you dose it in a low flow area, you can see it just settle on the bottom. Maybe you're getting precipitation. I would dose in the return section and see what that does. If the levels still drop, I would increase it by 50 ml and dose each 12 times a day.

It should not be a problem with the location I am dosing. The water is moving fairly well at the exit of the skimmer and I can see the alk mix as soon as the drop hits the water.

Also, I can't spread my dose out any more. My timers only allow 8 timed doses every 24hrs.
