I messed up....

So I drilled my tank for the Eshopps Eclipse overflow - mission successful. I was relieved I didn't break anything until I realized I messed up on the measurements and now the internal portion of the overflow overlaps the lip on the trim around the top.

Is there anything I can do to salvage this? I thought about getting a 1/2" thick piece of glass cut to silicone to the glass behind the box to make it sit flush with the trim. Would this work?

If anyone has any ideas or suggestions I would really appreciate it!

Sorry, yes I will post pictures. I will take some tomorrow as the tank is actually at my parents until I am ready to set it up at my place.

Where would I cut it? The waterline is right at where the bottom of the trim starts so there isn't too much room to work with.

but won't it leak since the bulkhead won't be tight pressing the gaskets on either side together?

Buy a new tank. even if you could get it to seal (unlikely), the hole is way too close to the edge of the glass. I would not trust its structural integrity.

Everything I read said to drill a minimum of an inch from the edge, I'd say it's about 2 inches. If I need to get a new one, will this one be okay to plug the hole and use as a sump?

You should be able to notch the trim,but we will need pics 1st !

I'm sure rimless tanks are drilled closer to the top

the gaskets would be inside the tank and in the water..
if you were to silicon the glass "shim" around the holes and then tighten the bulkheads you should spread it and squeeze it out..

No, gaskets can be on the inside, or outside of the tank.

Drilling a rimless tank is no different than drilling a tank with trim. I've done both....for several years.

That's not going to affect the integrity of the tank. Let's see the plumbing mistake and go from there.

I don't think so, I read reviews that the cuts in the eclipse were a little too long as they were and people had suggested cutting a small piece of plexi or something to raise the bottom of them to get a higher water level so I just measured to give me a little wiggle room to have the level right around the bottom of the trim.

Would you suggest getting another piece of glass over cutting down the trim right behind where the box will sit?

Now i see. I personally would not cut the tank trim. Just cut the top of the overflow box to fit directly under the trim.

I would rather buy new tank and use this one for sump. Better do things right from beginning then repair when tank is wet
