Haha if not a tusk, then what would you pick that isn't too pricey?
My miniatus...looks huge compared to my lunar. I'd say maybe...7.5in? It's hard to tell
Then you'd want something large enough that he can't swallow it.
Unless you have a particularly large tank, I'd say it's basically impossible for you to get a small one. 6.5-7.5 inches in probably what you want.

Aha I'll probably not. That's like a $200 dollar fish. Anything else you recommend?

I think it depends on what you'd like, color, personality, etc.

Maybe something like an Angel or a Butterflyfish, a Tang of sorts perhaps?

My lfs has an 8in Doctorfish tang for $85 right now. Seems like a good deal.

How big is your tank though? If the tank is large enough, the tusk should have enough space to hide for itself.

You won't be able to buy a young, small fish with a grouper in your tank, regardless of species (though a really aggressive trigger might instead tear the miniatus a new one).

Buying a larger wrasse is what I suggest. Get a large dragon wrasse is what I would personally do. Liveaquaria has them at 4"-6" for 59.99

That's also why I'm not purchasing a grouper. They're perhaps not the most aggressive fish, but getting one means every future addition needs room to hide or can't be too small.

oh man, well, at least they've got a DOA policy. Hope you'll not get discouraged by this and try again in the future.

that's definitely a problem, have you phoned them and alerted them of the situation? At least when you do that, they'll look into the issue, and you'll probably save a lot of other people too :)

I think I might be unlucky. This is over the course of a few years.

Usually a well known LFS, but I've heard liveaquaria is quite good, so I might order from there sometime.
Ah okay. I find that my lfs are quite overpriced. They wanted $90 for a 4in Volitans...

Yeah, in that case I wouldn't buy from them.
In fact, I've barely even purchased anything recently, so I'd go full out online purchasing as long as they have a DOA guarantee.
