I looked at it again and realized it’s probably just a washed out chalk bass
That was my guess, a stressed out chalk bass. But is someone told me it's a close cousin from the the same Serranus genus, I would buy that.

Well I went back in and was told it was labeled from wholesale as a miscellaneous grouper. Thoughts?
That was my guess, a stressed out chalk bass. But is someone told me it's a close cousin from the the same Serranus genus, I would buy that.
On second thought I don’t think it is!!

I think you’re right or at least close I now am pretty sure it’s just some kind of cephalopholis juvenile

Sure could be a bigger grouper.

Chalk bass are groupers, for what it's worth.
