Is a refugium in a brackish sump a dumb idea?

Why would it be a dumb idea?

There do exist some brackish water fish that feed on zooplankton (Pseudomugil cyanodorsalis for example), which could benefit from copepods breeding in one. And some fish like monos(?) and scats, are rather voracious omnivores, who would appreciate Ulva and other brackish-tolerant macroalgaes.

A brackish fuge could serve as a holding area for feeder organisms, such as fiddler crabs for pufferfish, or mysis shrimp for gobies.

Im capable of google, wondering what OP is doing.

i am the OP and I had to do a google search because I could never remember the exact “brackish” salinity. According to my research (and I could be wrong) I’d be at 1.01 give or take.

A SG of 1.010 has me blanking on plants/algae (other then mangroves) that would do well in that range. Let's see... @AlgaeBarn ?

What're you planning on keeping again? If it's only mangroves, you might be better served by growing the mangroves in the display tank...since any fish that would munch on algae would be hard-pressed to munch on a mangrove.

Hello, so with that there are tons of brackish plants you can use. I would suggest to just run these plants in your display. ~Shaun K

Freshwater filter only or is it? Have you ever used an HOB filter on a saltwater tank?
