I have crushed corals as substrates but now want to switch to sand. My tank is the fluval 13.5. Can I just dump all the crushed corals in the back chamber and use it as biomedia? It is currently just filled with aquaclear's biomax and original sponge.

I was thinking of getting marinepure, but I think I rather get something cheaper and not that easy to be crushed.
