Is the light hanging from the ceiling studs? They will hold whatever weight you make it and you can sleep at night.
I have a board screwed into 4 ceiling studs and then the RMS hanging kit screwed into that board. I have no clue how much weigh the RMS hanging kit holds though.

it doesnt matter if rimmed or rimless, the verticle glass is supporting the canopy either way.
i had an oak 3 sided canopy on a 150 for light block.

I never asked, what is the purpose of this? To shade the lights for light bleed purposes?
I just rearranged my fish room and added a reclining chair to view the tanks. It sits pretty low and the lights shine right in my eyes. Also, Ignore my dirty tanks :beaming-face-with-smiling-eyes: (currently elevating nutrients and dosing silicates to combat dinos)

Do you have the rim support on all sides? Mine would be resting on my toplids acrylic lid.

Yes. Rim support on all four sides but it is light, weighs maybe 10 lbs. So I don't need four sides. A screen sits on top of the wood frame and is recessed. You don't want a lid on your tank blocking light.
